Health Care
Mobile is a regional center for medical care, research and education. There are more than 850 physicians and 175 dentists practicing in the area and most are affiliated with one or more of nine hospitals serving Mobile. In addition, there are many outpatient surgical centers, emergency clinics, home health care services, assisted-living facilities and nursing homes.

Mobile Infirmary Medical Center

Mobile Infirmary Medical Center (www.mimc.com) has 704 beds and is a not-for-profit health care facility, offering a complete range of medical services, including surgery and rehabilitation.


 

Springhill Medical Center

Springhill Medical Center (www.springhillmedicalcenter.com) has 252 beds and offers emergency medicine, a diagnostic center, a women’s center, and family-centered labor and delivery. In 2001 the Center added a new building
dedicated to heart care.

Providence Hospital

Providence Hospital (www.providencehospital.com) has 349 beds and is a full-service medical and surgical facility. Providence Hospital is administered by the Daughters of Charity. It includes a rehabilitation and wellness center and an outpatient center.

University of South Alabama

he College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama serves the central Gulf Coast and the southern half of the state and is the region’s largest healthcare system. The college’s research department keeps Mobile’s health care on the cutting edge of medical science. The University supports a medical system that includes four hospitals:

The University of South Alabama (USA) Medical Center (www.southalabama.edu/usamc) has 346 beds and is a Level 1 Trauma Center. They offer the region’s only burn center. Life Flight, USA’s aeromedical transport, facilitates emergency transportation.

USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital (www.southalabama.edu/usacwh) has 219 beds and is dedicated exclusively to the care of women and children. The hospital provides general services and specialized programs such as a regional Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery. Along with the Child-Life Program, which addresses the special needs of hospitalized children, the Starbrite System allows children to talk to kids in other hospitals facing the same medical challenges.

Infirmary West at Knollwood, part of USA’s Heath System, has 315 beds and offers medical, specialized and surgical services and a 24-hour emergency center. (www.southalabama.edu/usakph) It also offers long term care for a variety of illnesses.

Rotary Rehabilitation Hospital

Rotary Rehabilitation Hospital has 50 beds and offers continuing treatment for various conditions, including head injuries, strokes, chronic pain and cerebral palsy.

Mobile’s Ronald McDonald House

Mobile’s Ronald McDonald House (www.rmhmobile.org) provides comfortable, affordable accommodations for out-of-town families with a child hospitalized in Mobile.

 

Thomas Hospital

Thomas Hospital (www.thomashospital.com) has 150 beds and has increased services as well as square feet. What was once a small community hospital is now a full-service hospital with cancer and wellness centers. It recently opened a full Outpatient Diagnostic and Surgical Center to accommodate the rapidly expanding population in Baldwin County.

Mercy Medical


Mercy Medical, (www.mercymedical.com) with facilities in Mobile and Baldwin counties, offers specialized medical rehabilitation, Medicare-skilled nursing, hospice, long-term care, outpatient services, home health care and residential care.


 

Searcy Hospital

Searcy Hospital has 467 beds and is a state facility in nearby Mount Vernon with full-service psychiatric care.
